Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 pairs pocketable design with a full-size viewing and editing screen

The Galaxy Z Flip8 is designed to switch between compact convenience and a larger smartphone experience. Quick tasks such as checking a widget can be handled on the FlexWindow, while unfolding the device provides more room for watching video, editing photos and creating content. Once finished, the phone can be folded back into a smaller shape for storage.

At 180 grams, the Flip8 is Samsung’s lightest Galaxy Z Flip to date, and it is also the company’s thinnest model in the series. The phone measures 13.1mm when folded and 6.1mm when open. Its reduced folded size is intended to make it easier to carry in a pocket or bag, while the FlexWindow keeps information, widgets and supported apps accessible without opening the handset.

Unlike a book-style foldable that expands into a tablet-sized display, the Flip8 folds a regular smartphone-format screen into a more compact footprint. Its thinner, lighter construction extends the portable approach used by previous Galaxy Z Flip generations.

When opened, the phone presents a 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz. The larger panel provides additional space for viewing, scrolling and content creation while retaining the ability to fold the phone into a compact form.

A short YouTube video can be viewed on the FlexWindow, whereas longer viewing sessions—including a movie or a television-series episode—can be moved to the main display. The same expanded screen is useful for social platforms, offering more room to browse feeds, watch vertical videos, compose replies and create or upload content.

Flex Mode provides a hands-free option for the main screen. By partially folding the Flip8 and setting it on a stable surface, users can keep the display at an angle for watching content or making a video call. The same setup can be used to take photographs or record video of yourself without leaning the phone against another object or bringing a separate stand.

The Dual Recording feature captures the scene in front of the phone and the user’s reaction at the same time. Both perspectives remain visible on the main display during recording, allowing users to monitor each view.

After a photo is captured, the unfolded screen provides more room for reviewing the image and checking edits. Photo Assist[1] in the Gallery can be used to move, resize or remove objects and fill in portions of an image. This allows a photo to be taken, reviewed and adjusted on the same device before the Flip8 is folded away.

The phone’s larger display is therefore intended for activities such as viewing, recording and creating, while its folding construction restores a smaller footprint when those tasks are complete.
